First Training Workshop for Principals and Teachers of Primary Education of Piraeus The first two-day workshop of the Motivating Teachers 4 Europe (MOTIVATE) program was held on 21 and 22 November at the University of Piraeus in collaboration with the school counsellor P70 PEKES Mr. Vasileios Karnavas. The Workshop was addressed to principals and teachers of Primary Education. During the Workshop, topics related to the European Union were discussed, in particular methods by which Primary School pupils can learn basic information about the Union. First of all, Professor and Vice President of the Department of International and European Studies of the University of Piraeus Foteini Asderaki analyzed the European Higher Education Area. Afterwards, graduates of the Department of International and European Studies presented the values of the European Union and ways in which the European Union can be integrated in primary schools. More specifically, they presented the educational resources published by the European Commission and the Council of the European Union and how they can be used in the context of the course. Furthermore, ways of creating a European Union Corner within the primary school were demonstrated, while utilising the educational resources that have been published. Finally, specific reference was made to ways and methods that can make a school more environmentally friendly while fostering pro-environmental feelings in pupils. Principals and teachers showed particular interest in how they could integrate activities about the European Union into their lessons, as well as in the conditions prevailing in the education systems of other EU Member States.
